a big step towards green energy

a big step towards green energy

The transition to green energy is an immense global undertaking. With solutions scaled to match this challenge, North Atlantic is taking big steps toward a cleaner, sustainable, and economically prosperous future. Strategically located between Europe and North America, at a juncture of limitless wind and water, the North Atlantic Green Energy Hub — and our associated 1.1 GW wind-to-hydrogen project in Placentia Bay — will produce and export green hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives to customers worldwide. We are proud to know we will be generating clean energy for generations to come.

Our proven track record in the energy industry spans decades, while our team brings extensive experience in renewable energy development and export to global markets.

Combined with our ownership of strategic resources and strong credibility among stakeholders, it’s clear that North Atlantic is uniquely positioned to meet the energy needs of the future.

a big boost for the planet and economy

North Atlantic’s green hydrogen projects will produce approximately 90,000 metric tons of green hydrogen annually. The reduction in CO2 emissions depends on the application, but using that much hydrogen in heavy haul trucking could cut CO2 emissions by about one million metric tons.

These projects will significantly contribute to the economy as well. The construction phase alone is expected to generate over 5,000 person-years of employment. Over the facility’s lifespan, the projects will create over 18,000 person-years of employment and generate billions of dollars in economic activity.

green energy hub infrastructure

Located on the isthmus of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula, the Green Energy Hub will leverage North Atlantic’s substantial existing infrastructure – with the capacity to store and convey green hydrogen production from 3 GW of wind power – and decades of refinery and terminal operations. It will also put to use some of the best onshore wind resources in the country, producing and transporting low-cost green hydrogen to domestic and foreign markets.

This full-service Hub will provide a centralized location for the manufacturing, construction, operations, and maintenance services necessary to support the region’s bourgeoning wind industry. It will include the facilities to produce renewable wind power, green hydrogen, and a variety of hydrogen derivatives, including green ammonia, and liquid organic hydrogen carriers.

North Atlantic's 1,100 MW wind-to-hydrogen production facility will produce 90,000 tons of green hydrogen annually for export to customers around the world. Water electrolysis will be used to generate hydrogen, while ammonia and liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) will be utilized for hydrogen storage and conveyance.

Over the years, North Atlantic has seen significant benefits from its cutting-edge storage and shipping terminal, which boasts a year-round ice-free port. The facility consists of 3 berths with depths up to 100 feet and can accommodate tankers with capacity of up to 326,000 Deadweight Tons (DWT). Our tankfarm, with a total capacity of 7.3 million barrels of liquid storage, ensures efficient cargo handling.
