North Atlantic Launches Website & Community Office Hours for Wind-to-Hydrogen Project

St. John’s, NL – Today, North Atlantic announced two public engagement components of its wind-to-hydrogen project: a new website and community office hours.

The website, GreenEnergyHub.ca, will host important project information and updates as progress is made on environmental assessment.

North Atlantic will have a community office with open hours in December. The location is the Bull Arm Information Centre off the Trans-Canada Highway. The office will be open during the following times in December:

  • Tuesday, December 3: 1pm – 5pm
  • Wednesday, December 4: 1pm – 5pm and 7pm – 9pm
  • Thursday, December 5: 9am – 12pm
  • Tuesday, December 17: 1pm – 5pm
  • Wednesday, December 18: 1pm – 5pm and 7pm – 9pm
  • Thursday, December 19: 9am – 12pm

“North Atlantic continues to be excited about the opportunity for wind energy and hydrogen production in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Jeff Murphy, VP of Capital Projects at North Atlantic. “While we have more work to do, much has been accomplished and we what to share our progress with residents. Our community office hours give people the chance to share ideas, concerns and hopes for the project and the opportunity it brings to the area. We are here to listen and incorporate feedback into our planning. We will be back in the communities in the new year with technical sessions that will incorporate their feedback.”

North Atlantic’s proposed renewable energy project is in the Placentia Bay and Trinity Bay regions on the Island of Newfoundland. It will include the installation of an onshore wind farm to power the production of green hydrogen for export to global markets. Project components include:

  • A 320MW wind farm east of Sunnyside.
  • A Hydrogen Generation Plant with the capacity to produce 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.
  • A Hydrogenation Plant with capacity to convert up to 60,000 tonnes of green hydrogen to a Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) for export, half of which is for the North Atlantic Wind to Hydrogen Project, with the remaining capacity reserved for future expansion.
  • A 138 kV transmission line and associated electrical infrastructure to connect the wind farm to the Hydrogen Generation Plant.
  • The use of the existing Come by Chance jetty and four storage tanks.

In January 2025, North Atlantic will be hosting technical sessions for communities. More information about North Atlantic’s Green Energy Hub can be found at northatlantic.ca/greenenergy. Questions can also be sent to greenenergy@northatlantic.ca.
