TEST1 Wednesday, February 25, 2009 EDUCATION AND INDUSTRY COME TOGETHER NEWS HOST: There's been much talk in recent months of the global economic downturn as education and industry come together for the third oil and gas stakeholders forum. The (inaudible) have shifted from doom and gloom to opportunity. REPORTER: NOIA's Bob Cadigan says this event provides an invaluable opportunity for the public institutions to get a firm grasp on human resource demands of the industry and how best as colleges they can strive to meet those demands. In Newfoundland and Labrador with megaprojects like Hebron, the Long Harbour nickel smelter and White Rose expansion on the horizon, skilled labour has been a major concern. Part of a panel discussion this morning on how to meet those demands, representatives from ExxonMobil, Nalcor Energy, DFB Group and North Atlantic Petroleum all agree in this province the state of the global economy is something to take advantage of and to capitalize on. DFB Group CEO Jerry Byrne says intense labour needs are around the corner and precise planning will make all the difference in ensuring we have the human resources to meet those needs. |
