NORTH ATLANTIC REFINING MARKING SAFETY MILESTONE
HOST: North Atlantic Refining is marking a milestone in
employee safety. Since Harvest Energy acquired the refinery in October 2006, the employees have worked some two point seven million person hours with only one day lost to injury. An employee took the day off after throwing out his back.
Acting President of North Atlantic Refining, Brad Aldrich, says this compares to an average of thirty separate injuries resulting in lost work days in the average

CELEBRATION OF A SAFETY MILESTONE
REPORTER: There are lots of potentially dangerous worksites. You could be a construction worker, a cop, or a work aboard a fishing boat in a raging sea. An oil refinery ranks up there, as well. But, today, the North Atlantic Refinery in Come by Chance celebrating a milestone
that few refineries in the world can boast about.
It can be dangerous work. At the North Atlantic Refinery in Come by Chance the processing goes on round the clock; a hundred thousand barrels a day. A job where one misstep or wrong decision can be disastrous on a wide scale.

HARVEST ENERGY STOCKS REBOUND
REPORTER: One of the biggest gainers in yesterday's rebound in the American stock market is a company with a big investment in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Harvest Energy Trust owns the refinery in Come by Chance. It stocks rocketed up by almost 24% in one day.
Harvest Energy trades in both the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York stock exchange. The stock went up$1.90 a share in New York and now stands at $9.99 US. The Canadian markets were closed yesterday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

HARVEST ENERGY LOOKING TO INCREASE OUTPUT
REPORTER: Harvest Energy Trust may spend up to two billion dollars to boost production at its oil refinery at Come by Chance.
It's looking at increasing the refinery's output by more than sixty-five percent from a hundred and fifteen thousand barrel a days to one hundred and ninety thousand.
Harvest Energy President John Zahary says the trust is encouraged by a consultant's report on the possible expansion.

BANKERS TOUR OIL REFINERY
REPORTER: The President and CEO of Harvest Energy Trust, John Zahary, recently took a group of bankers on a tour of the Come By Chance oil refinery.

FEELING THE PINCH OF HIGH OIL PRICES
REPORTER: Harvest Energy, the company that owns the Come by Chance oil refinery, is feeling the pinch of high oil prices. World oil prices closed at just under one hundred sixteen dollars a barrel yesterday.
Harvest Energy spokesperson, Brad Aldridge, says the cost of raw products has increased but the ultimate price of their product, such as gas at the pump, has not gone up to the same level.

OWNERS DELIGHTED WITH OPERATION
HOST: The owners of the Come By Chance oil refinery are delighted with the way that operation’s working out since they acquired it a couple of years ago.
REPORTER: Harvest Energy from Calgary purchased North Atlantic Refinery two years ago and President John Zahary says the operation is a very important part of their business.
He says North Atlantic creates an integrated company with their operations in western Canada. Zahary says the coming months will be very busy at the refinery as they get ready for summer driving when gasoline is in greatest demand.

NORTH ATLANTIC HONOURED
REPORTER: Two employers and three students have been honoured at Memorial University as part of National Cooperative Education Week.
The toast to higher learning highlighted the support of employers and the success of MUN students and graduates.
North Atlantic Refining received the Employer of the Year Award for their co-op program. In the last two years, the company has hired nearly forty students.

IMPROVEMENTS AT NORTH ATLANTIC REFINERY
HOST: More than $60 million in capital works is being spent this year on improvements at North Atlantic Refinery.
REPORTER: The largest chunk of the $63 million to be spent on improvements this year will go towards a new visbreaker project, which is a unit that upgrades heavy fuel oil into products like gasoline.
The President of Harvest Energy Trust, John Zahary, who own the refinery, says this work would upgrade about 1,500 barrels a day out of their total production of 27,000 barrels per day. Zahary says this project alone will cost $27 million.

NORTH ATLANTIC DONATES TO CHILDREN’S WISH
HOST: The Children’s Wish Foundation is a big winner thanks to the efforts of North Atlantic Refining.
REPORTER: The employees at North Atlantic Refining hold various fundraisers all year long and recently they made a donation of $22,500 to Children’s Wish. Spokesperson Gloria Warren Slade says in addition to the fundraisers, a number of employees have signed up for automatic payroll deductions in aid of this charity.
The workers have been holding these fundraisers since 1998 and since that time they have raised just over $89,000 for Children’s Wish.
